  • 251 beds and 10 theatres, of which six have laminar flow
  • An orthopaedic unit committed to specialised surgery, including the treatment of foot, knee, back and joint replacements
  • A 16 bed day ward
  • A neurosurgery unit where our team deals with delicate neurosurgical procedures
  • A 8 bed neurosurgery ICU
  • A 4 bed neurosurgery high care unit
  • An endoscopic unit
  • A 24-hour accident and emergency unit manned by a multi-disciplinary team trained to handle any emergency situation, with the latest medical technology at their disposal
  • A 11 bed general intensive care unit, equipped with leading diagnostic and monitoring facilities
  • Cardio unit including a cardio ICU, cardio ward and catheterisation lab
  • Oncology, medical, children and general surgery ward
  • An obstetric and gynaecology unit which is involved in more than 1,000 deliveries each year. The unit is supported by:
    • A 15 bed maternity unit with well-appointed wards and video security facilities
    • A 14 bed neonatal and paediatric intensive care unit complete with state-of-the-art monitoring and life support equipment dedicated to the treatment of premature babies and critically-ill children up to the age of 12 years

Patient and visitor information

It is a privilege to care and support you with top quality medical care. A highly qualified medical team of doctors, nursing, paramedical and administrative staff, are working together to make your recovery speedy and comfortable.

Accommodation

The hospital provides beds for day patients, private rooms, general wards, high and intensive care units. Each bed is equipped with a buzzer that can be used to call nursing staff.


Discharge

Patients are discharged by their treating physician or doctor during his / her rounds of the wards. Kindly make the necessary travel arrangements, should you be discharged on the same day that you received anesthesia. Please make sure that you take all your possessions with you, including your x-rays, home medication and personal items.


Financial Information

We kindly request that you obtain conformation on the following from your medical aid:

  • medical costs covered;
  • authorisation for hospitalisation;
  • maximum benefits or exclusions which may be applicable;
  • benefit restrictions, regarding prosthesis and instrumentation.

Certain medical aid funds require their members to pay a percentage of the incurred costs. It is however important to bare in mind that the account remains the patient`s responsibility, and is payable within 30 days of discharge. If you are uncertain of any financial aspects of your medical aid, please consult one of our case coordinators. The ward secretary can arrange a visit by a case coordinator.

We request private patients to pay an amount equal to the estimated cost of the total account upon admission. The outstanding balance, if any, is payable upon discharge. It is however, important to keep in mind that the hospital account does not include any other incurred costs, e.g. services rendered by your doctor, anesthetist, radiologist, pathologist, etc.

Please contact the hospital regarding advance payments prior to your admission.

Patients younger than 18 years must be accompanied by an adult on admission and discharge. The parent or guardian is requested to give written consent for the admission of anaesthetic, as well as take responsibility for the account prior to admission.


Service monitoring

In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care; we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. On discharge patients are asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their stay at the hospital. Participation is voluntary, but this will assist the hospital management to address any problems and improve our service to you.


Visiting times

The hospital provides beds for day patients, private rooms, general wards, high and intensive care units. Each bed is equipped with a buzzer that can be used to call nursing staff. Bed rest and a quiet hospital environment is vital for healing,to facilitate a patients healing and recovery, we believe in integrating their loved ones into their day and we know what a difference the support, care and love of close family and friends can make.

However, in the interest of our patients wellbeing and the must needed rest that all of our patients require, we do enforce visiting times, limitations to the number of visitors per patient and age restriction regulations for children. Children who are older than 12 years of age and in good health are welcome to visit. We encourage younger children to wait in the reception area, supervised by an adult.

Please note that visiting times of individual wards or ICU’s might differ. The visiting times for units and wards are as follow:

GENERAL WARDS

  • Early mornings: 07h00 – 07h30 (only for a quick greeting before work)
  • Mornings:   10h30 – 11h30
  • Afternoons:   15h00 – 16h00
  • Evenings:   19h00 – 20h00
  • Only two visitors per patient is allowed
  • No children are allowed in the oncology and medical wards

INTENSIVE CARE UNITS
MULTI ICU (MICU)

  • Mornings: 11h30 – 12h00
  • Afternoons: 15h00 – 16h00

  • Only two visitors per patient is allowed
  • No children under the age of 12 allowed

NEURO ICU (NICU)

PAEDIATRIC ICU (PICU)

  • Parents: 10h00 – 17h00 and 20h00 - 22h00
  • Grandparents: 15h00 – 16h00
  • Only two visitors per patient is allowed
  • No children under the age of 12 allowed
  • We discourage visiting by anyone who is ill, or who has been exposed to illness in the past two weeks. Parents who are ill must inform staff and will be provided with the necessary infection prevention dress-code.

MATERNITY WARD

  • Husband / Partner / Grandparents / Siblings: 10h00 – 20h00, except during the rest period from 13h00 – 15h00.
  • Family and friends: 15h00 – 16h00 and 19h00 – 20h00

PAEDIATRIC WARD

  • Parents and grandparents: open visiting time.
  • Only two visitors per patient are allowed
  • Only one parent may stay overnight after 20h00.
  • No children or siblings under the age of 12 are allowed in the ward or ward play area.

DAY WARD

  • Maximum of two visitors at a time for no more than 30 minutes.
  • One family member or friend may stay with the patient during the day.

RENAL UNIT

  • No visitors are allowed in the Renal Unit due to high infection risks for our patients.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • We kindly request that you please adhere to these times when visiting a patient as there are quite some activities taking place in a ward or unit such as physiotherapy, X-rays, sonars, doctor rounds and various other diagnostic and clinical procedures.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the bedside when procedures are carried out in the room, a patient in a shared room requires immediate lifesaving measures (e.g. resuscitation) or a sensitive/private discussion need to occur with the patient. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.
  • We ask that visitors respect other patients in the same room and their families. No cellular phones are allowed except if it is placed on mute. No loud cellular phone conversations are allowed in the corridor of the department.
  • A maximum of two visitors per patient (for all departments) is enforced to allow for the privacy of our patients as well as for noise reduction.
  • Families are also asked to work together with the staff so that their presence does not limit staff access to the patient at any time.
  • Family may enquire at the registered nurse in charge of the department for a quick visit to a patient directly after a theatre procedure.
  • All visitors are required to kindly report at the department reception first when visiting outside of the stipulated visiting hours.
  • All visitors and family members must be free of communicable diseases and must respect the hospital’s infection control policies.
  • Disruptive behaviour and unsafe practices from visitors are not acceptable. These situations, although rare, will be addressed directly and promptly.
  • Primarily, we need our patients to rest and get well. A noisy environment is not conductive for the healing process. Please be considered and keep your voices low, no screaming or loud talking, no children playing in the corridors etc.

EMERGENCY UNIT

When an adult or child needs emergency care, family members are often present at the onset of the emergency as they identify the need for emergency care for their loved ones. They are key informants for emergency personnel and are present during the commencement of care and even the onset of resuscitation if it begins outside the hospital.

However, the event may be too traumatic for the family, clinical care may be impeded, family members might become too emotional, emergency department rooms are often crowded and as staff are primarily focused on the patient they might not be available to assist family members.

Therefore, only one family member will be allowed with the patient next to the bedside. A patient’s visitor may be asked to leave the bedside when certain procedures are carried out. Feedback will be given to the family as soon as possible by the staff. We thank you for your cooperation. Please be assured that we only have the best interest of your loved one in mind. You are our "partner in care!”
